Professional Home Organizing: Product
Hi! My name is Audra and I’m the owner of the professional organizing company Elevated Order. Here are a few things that I think will be helpful for you to understand about why product is SOOO important and, because of that, why we don't upcharge for it.
Labor is necessary in the beginning to do the job because it dictates which products are necessary. We can’t tell the sizes and quantities of each product we’ll need to use for your space until it has ALL been pulled, categorized, purged, and sorted. That just takes time. There isn’t a way to quickly do that for hundreds of items, so we just do it as quickly as possible. Here’s an article on the necessity of labor if you’re interested.
Product is NECESSARY in creating and maintaining any system. Some clients tell me they don’t want to spend much on product because of their budget. I advise them that if money is the issue, it’s far more valuable in the long run to wait a month or two so that they can save up for the additional product. We want to provide 100% satisfaction today, as well as a year from now, and it is more important to us that our services maintain their functionality into the future than it is to get it done before you have the adequate budget available for the right products – only to have it fall apart quickly. We want our clients to be as happy as possible with our work and we know from years of experience, there is a HUGE decrease in the sustainability of your space without the necessary products. We never want this to be the experience for any of our clients for what works out to be a small percentage of the total job cost.
**Given that, we never upcharge for product. We don’t ever want a client to wonder whether we have selfish intentions by suggesting the purchase of a product or products.**
Since we’re also consumers of home services, we also get frustrated when we’re being upsold on something where we don’t know if we actually need it, but the "expert" is telling us that we need it. But we KNOW they’re making money off of selling it to us. So, we choose not to put our clients in that situation. We want you to KNOW that we think it’s important. If we’re suggesting you spend more money and you KNOW we don’t make any money on it, we hope you’ll value the advice, because making our services more expensive unnecessarily would be unwise for us. We actually try to save our clients money by buying in bulk when possible as well as general market knowledge where we just know what’s available and which products have the highest quality to price ratio.
Let's say that we recommend the purchase of bins and there are $5, $20, and $100 bins. We want to be able to tell you that we don't recommend the $5 bins because they won’t serve you well without you wondering if we're trying to make more money by suggesting the $20 bins. In addition, if you want the hundred dollar bins, we don't want you talking yourself out of it because we'd end up making hundreds of dollars more with no significant difference in services provided.
I hope you’ve found this helpful. Thank you and bye!
